Wanted: Creative video editor for world-class climbing platform
Hi there,
My name’s Kathryn and I’m head of production at Altitude.
Altitude is an online climbing platform co-founded by Magnus Midtbø. We produce courses with the most iconic climbers and world-class climbing coaches, such as:
Adam Ondra, Daniel Woods, Hazel Findlay, Alex Megos, Dave MacLeod, to name a few.
We’re looking for a dedicated editor to join our team and become our in-house course video editor.
We’ve enough productions on at once that we’ll have consistent work with some projects maybe overlapping, and possibly the opportunity to assist with editing some videos for our YouTube channel.
For a video editor who loves climbing (or a climber who loves editing videos), this is a Dream Job.
You will…
- Have consistent, dependable income
- Have a timeline of projects laid out before you
- Get to work with our head of production and director to shape our house style, and plan the kind of footage we’ll shoot to make the best course videos
- Edit course videos from the world’s best climbers every day!
- Be part of a team of A-players
- Have the flexibility to work from anywhere in the world (we’re an entirely remote team)
This position is right for you if you...
- Are a climber or a climbing enthusiast with experience editing indoor/outdoor climbing videos
- Are obsessed with video editing and learning: you have a finger on the pulse of the latest updates and programs that will make your life easier and your videos sleeker.
- Are creative and not afraid to make suggestions but can also take feedback from others on the team to shape the raw footage from our shoots into beautiful, high-quality and valuable course videos
- Can work to fast-paced timelines
- Are well-organized (there’ll be various team members across multiple timezones reviewing the videos so it’s important to create a well-thought out system that doesn’t leave anyone guessing)
- Can “fill in the gaps” and know everything about video editing that the rest of the team aren’t experienced with – you’ll be in charge of transforming raw footage into high-definition, color-perfect, correct-sized for all devices, videos.
We have 7+ years of experience doing this and have our process fine tuned. We’ll use Frame to collaborate during the video editing process, and we normally use Vimeo to host our videos. You’ll be coming into a smooth system that already works, so you can focus on what you do best. (We have excellent members of the team taking care of everything else.)
You don’t necessarily have to have experience with editing online course videos, although an interest in online education will be helpful. Course videos are a different nature to YouTube. They are intentionally slower and longer. We tend to shoot with 2-3 cameras and we don’t really use jump-cuts.
Ideally you’re a climber, but don’t be put off from applying if you’re not but still feel strongly that you’d love this job.
To apply…
This position will be starting in mid-December, but we’re looking to line someone up already so they’re prepared. We expect the position to be nearly full-time within 2-3 months.
Pay will be set at a competitive monthly rate.
If the position excites you, write me ([email protected]) a short email noting your experience and why you think you would be a good fit. Please include 1-2 samples of videos that you’ve edited and tell us why you’re proud of them. Do not send a CV – all that matters is whether you can do it.
We won’t be able to get back to everyone, but for those who stand out, we’ll be in touch within a few days.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you,
Kathryn
